Artist's Comments

The finished painting based on *chrisntheboat Photograph, painted with oils and Alkyds. Brushes used predominately bristle brushed, and a few Simple Simmons Rounds for some of the smaller branches. Ler that is how I paint trees on Canvas, and I will also show what a painting looks like when you paint on hardboard with no texture on a Black background gesso color. I hope this helps understand how I approach an oil painting from a photograph done in an impressionistic style.

im currently studying how to draw landscapes and i think your work is great!

what i really like is the color combination and how you make the tree more important than any other objects in the picture.

For me the trees are the main subject from the beginning of the painting. I always start with the part of the picture that is farthest away from me or the viewer when painting a landscape. There is no sky in this painting so the leaves are the first thing I paint after sketching in the composition with a brush. Thank you for visiting my site, and I am very glad you enjoy my work.

Simply Simmons is the maker of the brushes. A round is a pointed brush, a filbert is a rectangular brush that has the corners rounded off, and a flat is rectangular. These names are consistent on all brushes that you buy. I am always happy to share knowledge, and I'm old so you don't have to repay me. You give me someone to share knowledge with, and I appreciate that. Thank you for asking questions and wanting to learn.
