11" X 14" Pencil Rendering of a Harpy Eagle. Done with 2B Pencils only because I can't find the 4B and 6B Pencils, and I don't want to go get some unsharpened ones. I've been drawing frogs, but I just wanted to do a companion to the first Eagle Head. I illustrated this from my own photographs taken in Mexico City Zoo, and the back feathers in the headress from A "Mongobay" Photograph I found on the internet. I have photographs of Harpy Eagles bedraggled from rain falling on them, and Shiny and smooth headed with a clear view of the eyes. I also have one with the bird looking directly at the viewer with the Head feathers ruffled, and one in profile but no ruffled feathers. I hope making a composite drawing doesn't violate anyones copyright.

Thank you! I love to draw eagles, just because of that expression. They seem to have disdain and a boldness in their eyes that is riveting to me as an artist. I just finished another eagle drawing last night.

OMYGOODNESS I LOVE THIS. some of the best artwork i've seen is pencil art. no colors, no ink, just straight up graphite. they're just so much more... real, ya know?

Being a pencil artist myself, I should let you know this piece stopped me in my tracks!

11x14 is such an exciting but intense art-board to draw on. Just recently started an 18x24 piece
to take my drawings to a more professional level. 1.5 months later... not even 1/6th of the way
completed.

Congrats on your work. We illustrators know how pencil and paper offer glorious victory at the strong
chance of utter disaster.

As an artist...

I will either name it what it needs to be, or design what I want it to say.

As a musician...

I will be the sound it makes.

Thank you. I love eagles, birds, feathers, fish, mammals, plants, animals reptiles, and drawing them so I know what you mean. I bought some 18" x 24" tablets thinking I would go bigger, and have more space, but I actually prefer the 11X 14 or 11X15 smooth Bristol for pencil and pen and ink, vellum bristol sometimes for pencil, and the same sizes for watercolor paper coldpress or hotpress. The larger sizes are just too awkward for everyday drawing. I learned about woodless pencils and totally love them. They go from the H's to 9B and are just wonderful. They sharpen easily with a hand held sharpener, and are coated in a smooth varnish (or something) and are not messy. I'm glad you like the Harpy eagle. Try the woodless pencils I think it will help your work go faster.
